How OCLM Defines Leadership for Children

Leadership is defined as doing the right thing even when no one is looking. It is the ability to look at a situation or task and know how to make progress on it in a moral and ethical manner. OCLM specifically teaches these skills through both social/emotional development as well as our project-based academic activities. Our goal is for our students to practice leadership skills in the classroom through circle time, class meetings, cooperative work, and centers learning and then apply those skills in situations on the playground, in the halls, and even at home. OCLM teachers and parents believe that given the right tools each child's leadership potential is revealed, and that with practice they can learn to apply those leadership skills in their everyday life situations.
